The identification of the cause of a problem in buildings is closer to detective work than a visit to the doctors because the building cannot talk back ! Thus we prefer a considered diagnosis prior to trying the various options, rather than attempting an overkill to tackle all of the possible causes.

This is particularly the case in roof leaks as the water may travel in different directions between the construction layers before appearing on the underside.

Roy Ilott has been investigating defects and the carrying out maintenance of almost every type of building since the late 1960s, and thus has a wide experience on which to base his understanding of building pathology.
